Penryn Kemeneth Bunting
We are inviting all members of Penryn Kemeneth to take part in a mass bunting making workshop, taking place from the comfort of your own homes. 🙂
Community visual arts project
Kemeneth is the Cornish word for community.
It is a word we are all familiar with, but what does it mean?
What does it mean to be part of the Penryn Kemeneth?
Is it a specific landmark or a place that is instantly recognisable and creates a sense of place?
Is it the animals that are found there? Or maybe a special tree, that help to form memories of childhood?
Is it the places people gather? The pubs, cafes, churches or sports grounds?, the places where Kemeneth join together in song and activity?
Or maybe it’s the people themselves? Notable names from history or famous faces of today? Identifiable faces that we all see a bit of ourselves in?
It may be one thing or a whole tapestry of stories that, over time weave together to form a web of community or Kementh Spirit.
In these times of social distancing, self isolation and the need to “stay home , stay safe” we want to remember what exactly is it that makes Kemeneth here in our town of Penryn?
What makes it special? What makes it unique?
The Penryn Kemeneth bunting project is made possible with thanks from Feast Cornwall and is a project in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are inviting all members of Penryn Kemeneth to take part in a mass bunting making workshop, taking place from the comfort of your own homes.
We will provide the materials, “how to’s” inspiration and helpful tips for you to create your own triangle of bunting depicting your own personal view of Penryn Kementh.
Think of it a bit like a charm bracelet, with each triangle representing a different image of Penryn Kemeneth.
Our aim is for each triangle to be a unique viewpoint from all members of the town.
Whether you are attending school in your living room, have become a home schooling parent, are a absent grandparent, a student, a furloughed worker, artist, keyworker or new to the area this project is for you.
You don’t even need to be a stitcher, we will provide the tools to create your own triangle bunting with or without a sewing machine.
Instructions, downloadable PDF instructions and How to’s will all be on our website www.penrynkemeneth.org.uk
We will collect the triangles from you and stitch them together to form the final lengths of bunting, and once this is all over it will be used at the various town parades and events for all to see.
Register your interest here as initial numbers will be limited to material packs.
We look forward to hearing from you!:)
